Pushing Bitcoin's Limits
On February 1, 2023, block #774628 was mined setting a new record: 3.96 MB, the largest Bitcoin block in history at the time. This block was packed with Ordinals inscriptions, most notably the 'Taproot Wizard' — a pixel art image inscribed directly on the blockchain.
The Taproot Wizard inscription was inscribed by the artist Unexplored_ on a single satoshi. The image became an iconic symbol of the Ordinals movement. The block size record demonstrated the effective capacity increase enabled by SegWit's block weight system.
