Bitcoin's First Transaction
On January 12, 2009, Satoshi Nakamoto sent 10 BTC to Hal Finney in what is recognized as the first peer-to-peer Bitcoin transaction between two distinct parties. Hal Finney was a renowned cryptographer, a developer of PGP encryption, and one of the earliest Bitcoin adopters.
Finney had been in email correspondence with Satoshi before the network launch and was one of the first people to download and run the Bitcoin software. He famously tweeted 'Running bitcoin' on January 11, 2009, the day before receiving this historic transaction.
